Stuffed Cabbage (Polish Golabki ‘Gowumki’)


1lb Ground Beef
1/3lb Ground Pork
1 Medium Yellow Onion (chopped)
1 cup Rice (washed)
1/2 cup Milk
2-4 dashes Salt & Pepper
1 head Cabbage
1 Bay Leaf
1 pinch Marjoram Leaves
28oz Canned Tomatoes (crushed)


Step 1
Mix the ground meat, onion, rice, egg, milk, salt and pepper.
Step 2
Scoop out the core of the cabbage and pour boiling water into it until the leaves become tender. Remove the tender leaves and spread each leaf with lemon sized portions of the meat mixture, folding the two opposite sides and rolling. Fasten with toothpicks, if necessary. Put the cabbage rolls in a covered baking dish or pan.
Step 3
Pour the can of tomatoes or tomato juice over the rolls until the juice is almost to the top (about 3/4 of the way, adding water, if necessary). Add the bay leaf and marjoram, cover and bake in a 350 degree oven 1 1/2 to 2 hours
